STATE ASHA RESOURCE CENTRE (SARC)

The state Resource Centre for ASHAs was set up in Don Bosco Institute on February 21, 2009 by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Don Bosco Institute and the National Rural Health Mission under the Govt. of Assam. A district community mobilizer and a data assistant are placed in each district of the state. The main focus is to train 2900 ASHA facilitators and through them to train 29000 ASHAs spread across the 27 districts of the state in order to provide quality health service.

The aim of SARC will be to motivate the ASHAs and ASHA Facilitators and equip them with technical and non technical skills to bring quality health services to the remote and inaccessible rural areas. It will be involved in the training and capacity building of these grass root level workers to enable them to bring about changes in the health scenario of the state.

Vision
To keep the ASHAs and the ASHA Facilitators motivated to work for the community so as to enable them, in accessing equitable, affordable, and quality health care provided by NRHM.

Mission
To provide technical, non technical support and capacity building for strengthening the ASHAs and ASHA Facilitators to improve the health system of the state.

Objectives

» To develop the capacities of the grass root level health workers so as to reach health care to the community.
» Through continuous training and orientation programmes, develop the ASHAs and ASHA Facilitators to take ownership of the community and the programme.
» Assist the NRHM in reducing MMR, IMR and TFR through effective training and monitoring of the ASHAs and ASHA Facilitators.
» Prepare and update an extensive data base of information on crucial indicators which will assist the NRHM in planning their future strategies.
