PEACE INITIATIVE
A N.E.India Consultation cum Convention on peace, organized by DBYES from Dec 9-11, 2003 in collaboration with a very committed core group of prominent citizens of Guwahati, was an effort to move a step closer to our dream of peace and discover our identity as brothers and sisters of NE India. It succeeded in bringing together experts in variousfields like Economics, Industry, Banking, Media, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Education, etc., and attracted over 3000 people from different backgrounds, professions, religions, communities and ethnic identities.


Symposium on Peace and Progress

An event organized by DBYES as a continuation of the Peace Initiative launched a year ago, the symposium was addressed by Shri Kanaksen Deka, president elect of Asom Sahitya Sabha as Chairperson. The symposium concluded with 'Peace Glow'-a candle light march from Latasil Field to Dighali Pukhuri Peace park on 10 Dec. 2004

Operation Shanti : Through this project, DBYES is campaigning for peace in the North east, through peace education in schools. The process began in 2003 with one-day orientation programmes with peace building exercises conducted in 10 schools of Assam and Meghalaya.

NETWORKING AND ADVOCACY

Networking implies collaboration and sharing of resources, resulting in enhanced quality and greater efficiency of the networking partners. DBYES networks with a number of NGOs and government organizations in short term and long term projects. This has resulted in increased credibility and greater impact of its Social Action interventions and activities.

A strong collaboration with the UNICEF, the District Administration and Sarva Shiksha Abhijan (SSA) resulted in the launching of the DUC programme, a massive reach-out programme on behalf of the Urban Deprived Children of Guwahati city that ensured the enrolment of 5115 children into regular schools.


DISASTER PREPAREDNESS PROJECT (DPP)

This project, initiated in October 2001 with the support of UNICEF, and in collaboration with the District Administration, has helped to bring about disaster awareness among the masses of Guwahati. Through the DPP volunteers, the following activities were carried out:

Awareness Programme conducted in 198 educational Institutions covering 57,506 students and 3130 teachers, 504 public and private sector establishments for 11,150 persons and 108 high-rise buildings with 2394 households.

First Aid and Emergency Rescue training, conducted in 106 schools, training 3224 students, 135 Nagarik Committees and Clubs, training 2800 persons.

39 Community Action Groups formed and 823 volunteers trained.
Disaster Management cells set up in L.C.B. College and Handique Girls College and All Assam OBC Association
4 Blood Grouping Camps held for 488 participants, and 198 blood donors registered.


CHILD LABOUR CAMPAIGN (CLC)
A networking enterprise launched in November 2002 targeting the working children of Guwahati.
225 NGOs/Mahila Samities/clubs, 105 schools, 269 slum pockets, 60 wards, 287 markets, and 1328 shops contacted and motivated to work for the abolition of child labour.
1301 working children registered and 300 children brought for weekly literacy classes.
6694 citizens contacted through one to one intervention for action against child labour.


‘MOTIVATION AND LEADERSHIP ENHANCEMENT MODULE’ for Tea Garden Youth: A Project in collaboration with the Govt. of Assam which trained and motivated 694 tea/ex-tea garden youth from 18 districts of Assam through 30 training programmes of six days’ duration each conducted by DBYES from August to November 2003.

PRSI: DBYES was closely associated with the 24th National Public Relations Conference, the first ever to be held in North East India, with Fr. V.M. Thomas as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
